Hello to you all.
Today I am going to talk about
one of my favourite topics within claiming and using our own
power. The Power of CHOICE.
So CHOICE. Choice is something
that we all have, and it is something we have with everything
we encounter in our lives. Yes everything that is around us
in our own lives is effectively due to the choices we have
made. We are the way we are due to the choices we have made
for ourselves.
This is where it can become
very challenging. I am not saying that we actively run around
choosing the not so pleasant things that happen in our lives.
And yes life can throw us some pretty meaty curve balls. But
we do have a choice around how we deal with what we are faced
with. In fact often it is not so much about what happens
to us, but more about how we choose to respond to that, that
shapes and defines our lives.
I am also not suggesting that
the choice is easy to make either, or then again to execute.
The key though is that YOU have the POWER of choice. YOU are
the person that makes the ultimate decision of what road your
life will take. So whilst something may happen to put you
on a different path, you do have a choice on whether you will
walk it.
Lets look at an example. If
someone comes up to you out of the blue and says something
personally affronting. What do you do? Well you could turn
around and say something equally horrible back to them; you
could turn your back and walk away; you could complain loudly
to someone else that you are under siege; you could ignore
them, or you could smile and wish them a nice day. And these
are just a few of the choices that are at your disposal in
such a situation.
Now you may feel too that
really you had no choice, I mean they were the ones that verbally
attacked you!! But who said you have to respond in like? Your
ego maybe :) You don't HAVE to do anything unless you CHOOSE
to do it. And the power comes in owning that choice, and therefore
making sure it is a choice that you truly want to own for
yourself in the first place. This being a conscious choice.
You are exercising your own
unique power when you work to making all of your choices conscious
choices. The ones that deep down make you feel good about
yourself inside, even when it may not have been an easy or
seemingly 'fun' choice, but one that you know was the 'right'
one for you.
Given too that a choice that
you can make has the ability to shape and define your life,
would it not be advantageous to be conscious to what that
choice is that you are making? And the other powerful thing
about making conscious choices is that we have a greater chance
of being able to influence the outcome as to what we would
like it to be, applying the basic law of physics that 'action
equals reaction'. Meaning that what you put in is what you
are likely to get back, and in equal amounts.
So what I invite and encourage
you to do is become conscious to ALL the choices you are making
currently in your life. And observe them, versus judging them,
to see which ones you are happy with and which ones maybe
not so, and see what needs to change with the choices you
are making so that you get more of that happy feeling and
the outcome that you truly are desiring. And know - you can
change them if you choose to!! YOU have that power to do so.
Another exercise that you
can have a bit of fun with is to say to yourself ' I choose
to....'. So that you practice becoming both more conscious
to your choices, and also owning them as your own. So when
you go to the bathroom, acknowledge " I choose to....'; when
you miss the gym because of work say ' I choose to continue
to work............' or ' I am choosing not to go to the gym';
when you buy that gorgeous suit on sale say ' I choose to
buy this suit'; or when you move your deadline forward following
your clients request acknowledge ' I choose to listen and
action their request' .
And most importantly when
you are responding to something in your life, acknowledge
that your response is fundamentally your choice!!
Now I am not sure what I will
choose to write on next time :), but in the meantime I wish
you all a thoroughly enjoyable time as you go about exercising
your own 'choice muscles'.
